The effect of Ruth Benedict

I read a book, A new look at the Chrysanthemum and the sword written by Douglas Lummis.
This book is essays about the book, The Chrysanthemum ant the Sword written by Ruth Benedict.
The auther tells that he was moved by the book, but it mazed about the understanding of Japan.
Because R.B's book was lack of the analysis of the power and the artificiality of Japanese trandition by Japanese gorverment in Meiji era.
I think that the arguments of Japanese society has been in R. Benedict's discourses.

a tragic of a communists' sect

I read the comic "Red vol.1" by Yamamoto Naoki.
This comic is based on the real case of "United Red Army."
This book is not so cruel yet.
But, as the story progresses, the tragic fate is waiting.
Some good guys and girls will be killed by commrades in the snowy mountain.
In this case of the sect, isolation from the people was the most problem, I think.

A too stoic scholar

I've just read the paper, 'Publicity and Formation of a "Japanese Style" Modern State' written by Oguma Eiji.
He says that: in Japan, intermediary groups were the sub-system of the state, so an individual felt that I was alienated by them.
His argument is quite superior.
But he does not show how to solve this problem.
I think that he is too stoic.

The issue of Japanese society

I'm reading a paper. It's about the history about the issue of Japanese society in postwar.
It is not easy to read. Because it makes me a certain kind of emotion.

I watched the live video of Emerson, Lake and Palmer on TV.
The live was recorded in 1970 or so.
Their music is called "Progressive Rock." I felt it was rather agressive rock.

I read a paper "Power" written in Japanese sociologist, Miyadai Shinji.
I have two critical point about this.
At first, he uses the matrix; but I can't understand why the choices are always only two.
Second, he says that there are Pan-personal powers in Japanese society; but it seems an empty concept.

National Diet Library has good databases. So I can did it well.

A tribial point of the Maruyama's paper

I've just finished reading the Maruyama's paper.
He tells about Japanese libertin in the Tokugawa era, like Kaiho Seiryo or Hiraga Genai. He says that they satirized square authoritical scholars but were not dangerous for political power. Parhaps Maruyama sees something same with ex-leaders of the late 1960s "student power".

I've been reading the paper "Old Layers of Historical Consciousness."
The author Maruyama analyses Japanese historical classics: "Nihon Syoki", "Koji-ki", "Manyo-shu", "O-kagami", "Gukan-syo", and so on.
Especially, In Japanese mythes, it is important to "become itselves." Not to "make" something.
But I wonder if "Japanese thoughts" is so particular.

Japanese-like something?

I'm reading Maruyama Masao's famous paper, "An Old Layer of Historical Consciousness."
It suggests this: a form of Japanese thought covers every events and ideas, and changes Japanese-like something.
Of course, I don't know such interpretation is right or not till the end of the paper.

"Jane Ayre" is too common?

I've read the novel "Jane Eyre," written by Charlotte Brontes, retold by Ann Ward for English learners.
Surely, the plot is interesting. So I've never bored.
But it is too common. Just like soup operas. Bad caractors is only bad. They seem not to have the inside.

(Maybe the original novel is not so.)

Meaning of the Far-east International Military Court

I've just finished watching a TV program about the Far-east International Military Court.
This court is not perfect. Because the pre-war Japanese politicians and soldiers didn't consist a conspiracy.
But it set the two concept: crime against peace and crime against humanity.
At this point it was a big step for world history.

It encourages me.

I'm looking at a terrestrial globe on my desk.
Human being is on the surface of the globe.
What is our future?
My life is not so long. But/so I'll do my best.

A game book "Survive!"

I've just read a game book, "Survive!", written by Helen Brooke. The story is about survival.
A plane comes across the accident and land on a snow mountain.
It's so well-made story.

About the brand

I like Starbucks.
Because it has good images.

When I went to a convenience store, I found a pack of Starbucks Latte.
So I bought it.
After that, I looked the packages.
Then I found that a milk maker "Takanashi Milk co. ltd." made it.

There's the Starbucks label, goods are sold at higher value.

Of course the coffee tasted good. Bitter and sweet.

A good book about teach something

I've read a book about how to teach.
It is written by Yasukouchi Tetsuya, a famouse English teacher in Japan.

He told that a good teacher is a giver of something.
The something is, for example, essential knowledges, how to study, a motivation that learner study in themselves, and so on.

Needless to say, the book contains how to teach, how to be a good teacher, how to give impress ions learners important things, how to encourage them, how to pull their questions, etc.

About my job

I've just finished making curriculum of a summer seminar in my school.
My school is for students to enter high schools that they want to do.
Entrance examination of high schools has a charactoristic in my prefecture.
My job is to help my students to pass the exam.

A book tastes bitter.

I've read a book about Japanese pre-war ultra-nationalists.
It tastes bitter.

Because a certain kind of fanatic man, Minoda Muneki, had something.

Of course, I'm democrat. On the other hand, he was against democracy. He and I are not the same at this point.

His ethnocentrism and anti-academism are very easy to understand. I don't agree with them. But we can see such discourses in a certain kind of major magazines in Japan.

A teacher of natural scienes

I invite a teacher of natural scienes to my school.
He's an able man.
I am glad to do it.

A hot wet summer night

The air is hot and wet. Japanese summer night in most regions is like this.

I've progressed reading of the "Macro Economics."
Chapter two is about a decision of GDP.
In this chapter, the auther Yoshikawa Hiroshi explains about the micro economics. His explanation is very interesting. It's so plain. Just like a junior high school textbook.

Keynes is the great economist. But he couldn't make his theory from nothing. It's based on the theories or ideas of the past people.
It encourages me.

A summer seminar of my school starts soon.
So I need various preparation.
To my students, it's so important.
Especially, mathematics has a certain kind of deepness.
Sold textbooks for a summer seminar cannot fulfill my need.
I'll consult my friend about it.

My first impression of "The Brothers Karamazov"

I'm reading a book "The Brothers Karamazov" written by Dostoevskii, translated by Kameyama Ikuo.
Kameyama's translation is very good. So the novel turns to a plain Japanese text.
The brothers Karamazov means three brothers.
But rather, the father is a very funky, impressive man.

"Republican Tradition in Europe"

I was searching for the book "Republican Tradition in Europe" written by Herbert A. L. Fisher.
But I cannot find it in Amazon.co.jp.
So I access Amazon.com, but I cannot find the new book. Though there are the used books.
Then I remember a search engine.

I'm reading a book of macro economics written by Yoshikawa Hiroshi.
Chapter one is about a national income statistics.
The auther told that we need to understand both flow and stock.
It's so easy to understand for me.

I read Erich Segal's famous book "Love Story", retold by Rosemary Border.
It was quite sad.
When I have an occasion, I'd like to watch the movie or to read the original story.

The auther emphasizes of the power of desire.

There're a lot of interesting topics.

I've reading the book, "How to Talk to Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere", written by Larry King (with Bill Gilbert).
I've already read it by 122 pages.
Especially, Chapter 2 is interesting.
For example, Larry told that: Talk to your pet. So it's useful to overcome shyness.
